MyFarm is looking to partner with progressive young dairy farmers to manage properties located mainly in Southland and Canterbury. We offer a range of management options – our syndicates employ managers, contract milkers and variable order sharemilkers. In some cases managers have joined with the other investors as
Equity Managers.
Are you a progressive young farmer?
We recognise the difference quality farm management makes to business performance. We are interested in talking to people who:
-
run an efficient farm system
-
have a proven production record,
-
have all round skills in staff and business management,
-
look after a farm like it’s their own
-
are strong communicators.
Generally MyFarm dairy farm managers have had more than five years farming experience and have demonstrated the ability to manage larger enterprises.
Why consider a position with MyFarm?
Good terms and conditions
We’re happy to negotiate a contract based around a very fair wages of management package with a ‘share of profit’ scheme delivering additional returns if budget targets are achieved. MyFarm is happy to consider a range of contract terms, but generally we prefer the following order of preferencer;
-
Contract Milking
-
Management (Employee)
-
Variable order sharemilking
Quality farms
MyFarm purposefully targets farms at the quality end of the market. This generally means our properties are;
-
Economic units, milking between 400 and more than 1000 cows
-
Well located from a farming and family viewpoint
-
Have good improvements fit for the farming system employed.
-
Are equipped for efficient operation including good farm machinery.
Robust business plans
MyFarm business plans are set-up with realistic production targets, but with a focus on a high standard of performance. MyFarm targets;
-
High cow condition targets - winter grazing is managed carefully
-
A focus on pasture monitoring and budgeting to ensure pasture growth and utilisation is maximised
-
A feed budget that includes 500 – 600 kgDM/cow of supplements to ensure high peak production and a long season
Stable and consistent relationships
Managers of MyFarm dairy syndicates have one main point of contact, their MyFarm Supervisor. Our supervisors have all had extensive farming experience and/or supervision experience and they focus on supporting on-farm managers with practical solutions as issues emerge.
-
Supervisors visit formally once per month but are also on hand during critical times, to assist with monitoring grazing and to supervise development projects.
-
Relationships with the Board and Chair of the farm syndicate are focused on communicating what is happening on farm and steps being taken to manage deviations from the plan (as sometimes occur). This is conducted through monthly reporting by the farm manager and supervisor using MyFarm templates.
Growth opportunities
MyFarm currently manages more than 43 farms throughout New Zealand and Australia on behalf of investors. This means farmers that establish a track record of good performance and can manage scale will have the opportunity to grow by taking on larger more challenging business management opportunities.
We expect to be offering 8-10 vacancies each year, due to normal career progression, purchase and sales. This also provides an important means of progressing herd managers and ‘Second-in-Charges’ into management positions.
