The facility is leased by Freshmax – global processor and exporter of fresh produce, and a management partner in several MyFarm investment syndicates. Freshmax has plans to double its apple production during the next 5-10 years.
More broadly the region continues to see growth in bareland development of apple orchards and other food & beverage products that require chilling facilities. In the apple orchard space higher density plantings, improved/new husbandry practices and bareland development is likely to see volumes grow by 6-7% per annum alone.
The current site is 3.62 hectares in size and contains 12 coolstores with a total footprint of 7,000 square metres. Of this, 8 coolstores are considered ‘modern’ with a total footprint of 4,900 square metres and flexible format. The remaining coolstore area is of a more traditional style and there are some other sundry storage and office buildings.
